What Is The Difference Between Interior And Exterior Acrylic Latex Paint

Latex is a general term for buckets of acrylic paint.
What is the difference between interior and exterior acrylic latex paint. Another difference between latex and acrylic paint is that latex paint is typically used for large projects such as interior painting for houses while acrylic paint is used for painting pictures and crafts. The binders and additives in exterior paint are designed to withstand harsh conditions and the coating is generally thicker and less decorative than an interior latex finish. Latex paint is used on unprimed drywall unpainted masonry and surfaces previously painted with latex or flat oil based paints.
The main difference between the two paints is that acrylic paint is chemical based and latex paint is water based. Interior and exterior paints have similar solvents and pigments though some pigments fade faster than others and so are more commonly used in interior formulations. While acrylic paint will generally last longer than latex paint latex paint is more frequently used for painting houses while acrylic paints are used for art projects.
Most interior house paints tend to be a combination of a binder which is more expensive such as latex acrylic vinyl vinyl acrylic and others a whole bunch of less expensive fillers such as calcium carbonate or talc some pigment for color and water. Conversely an interior latex product simply wouldn t last long if you used it to paint the side of your house or a fence because it lacks these heavy duty additives. Latex and acrylic paints are water based while alkyd paints are oil based and both interior paints and exterior paints come in both types.
This is not required in interior paints. Interior and exterior latex paint have different chemical properties but they do not differ all that much. Cheaper paints have more vinyl which makes them more elastic called latex.
Both are water based acrylic based and have little else different. First of all there is no practical difference between acrylics and latex. When it comes to exterior paint oil based is better at resisting dirt but more commonly water based latex paint is used because it tends to be at least as or more durable than oil based.
The primary difference in their compositions however lies in the bases that support these resins. Though interior and exterior paints look similar their chemical properties are vastly different as exterior paint shave to withstand harsh weather conditions heat and snow can cause the exteriors to expand and contract requiring flexion in the paint. Because it s chemical based the chemicals in acrylic paint make it more elastic than latex paint.
